This one day course takes place at Shrawley Village Hall and starts at 10.00am and finishes at 4.00pm.

'This is a Taster course. The assumption is that the student has no previous knowledge of pastel drawing or is probably a beginner. No previous drawing experience is assumed.

The course introduces pastel drawing and covers a number of basic techniques and skills. This course is very much about building confidence with holding pastel and making marks in subtle and bold ways. Use of line, tone and creating edges will be covered as well as how to draw simple objects convincingly.

Course Outline includes:

  • Welcome and introduction
  • Demonstration of basic techniques
  • Using pastels in different ways
  • Practice sessions
  • Working under the guidance of Paul you will create a number of drawings from things seen
  • A plenary session, where each work will be considered individually by Paul who will offer expert commentary and advice

All materials are provided on Taster Courses together with an easel and board. A light lunch is also provided.

If you wish to bring your own pastels the following is suggested: A standard pack of 12 pastels will be fine, together a pad of pastel paper preferably A3 in size.
